Key Stage 4

The core of subjects is designed to allow students to progress after their experiences at Stephenson Academy. It was decided to put Catering in the core because this is seen as an important life skill for our students.

Some students are withdrawn from Humanities to allow time for quality interventions to ensure success in other subjects. Some students will have bespoke timetables to suit their needs. Stephenson Academy aims to attain each student at least five qualifications to include English and Mathematics.

The curriculum is flexible and subject to change where required.

Key Stage 3

The key stage three curriculum is broad and balanced. It follows a main stream model with the exception of more vocational subjects like Motor Vehicles and Construction. The curriculum prepares our students for success at key stage 4.

We have placed Learning to learn and extra PSHCE in year 8 as a response to the needs of our new cohort.

There is a need to improve the learning attitudes and resilience of our students when they enter the academy.

This curriculum is enhanced by a programme of enrichment activities designed to increase the confidence and wellbeing of our students.

The Option choices available for 2012-2013 are as below.  It should be noted that options are based on student interest and uptake.

Key Stage 4 Options Programme

Students are offered option choices from a range of subjects and providers.  This is reviewed on an annual basis according to uptake and learning need.

The option choices on offer on site for 2014-15 are as follows:

Sixth Form Curriculum

For academic year 2014-15, the sixth form is in its infancy; as a result, there is a reduction in option choices on offer.

All students follow a set CORE programme, as shown below.  The programme has been designed to ensure that students are well prepared for life after the Academy, and as such focuses on personal and social skills, as well as academic or traditional subjects.

Where sixth form students need to re-sit any CORE subjects, they are able to integrate into the Year 11 timetable, where appropriate.  However, 1:1 sessions have been created for one lesson a week in ICT, Mathematics and English

Option choices are dependent on staff availability and student take-up, however the options available for academic year 2014-15 are as follows:
